Looking for performers and speakers for an event isn’t an easy task. How do you know if you’re booking the right person or what their performance will be like? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a sneak peek?
With VideoAsk you can ask performers or speakers to submit an “audition” through a video form and get a little preview of what they’re all about. You can ask them to record a video directly in videoask, allowing them to speak or perform right on the spot or they can upload a video they've recorded previously instead. You’ll then be able to view all of your “auditions” and pick your favorites.
Here’s an example videoask of a musician booking agent looking for bands to play at their next music festival.
Go ahead and give it a try, it’s set to preview mode so we’re not collecting submissions. 👇
In this guide, we’ve put together some tips on how to use VideoAsk to book presenters for an event. Feel free to jump directly to a section you’re interested in, or read the full article.

Building your videoask
If this is your first time creating a videoask, we recommend taking a look at our guide on how to create your first videoask and how to get started with the VideoAsk builder. You’ll be able to record videos of yourself asking questions directly to your audience, making it a more personal experience.
In the example above, we created a multi step videoask allowing us to ask different questions based on what we’re looking for. VideoAsk offers a variety of answer types, allowing you to customize steps with how you want people to answer each question.
We used the Open ended answer type to allow performers to submit a video, audio or text response. If you’re only interested in video responses, you can toggle the other answer options to off.
Enabling a contact form on your videoask allows performers to leave their contact details and you’ll be able to identify their response with their name. You can also customize the contact form to fit your use case. In our example, we’ve edited the Product name field in the contact form to say Band name instead and changed the intro to fit our use case.
Customizing your videoask
You can customize different elements on your videoask like colors, fonts, text and much more. Below are some of the features we used to customize our example videoask:
- Custom fonts and colors
- Custom end screen
- Customize interface text
- Control the length of video or audio answers
You can also stay on brand by adding your logo to your videoask and using a custom domain.
Note: Some of these features are only available on paid plans. Check out our pricing page for a breakdown of what’s included in each plan.
Share your videoask
After creating your videoask and testing it in preview mode, you’ll be able to share your videoask and start collecting responses.
You can choose from sharing a link, sending it in an email, posting it on social media or embedding it on a website as an iframe or widget. You can also offer a QR code for performers to scan.
View and organize responses
Once someone has responded to your videoask, you’ll receive an email notification and be able to view the response in your videoask inbox.
While viewing responses, you can organize submissions by adding a tag to identify which performer you’d like to book. You’ll then be able to filter your responses by tags you’ve created.
Reply back to performers and book a meeting
You’ll be able to reply back to performers via VideoAsk if they’ve left their contact information, making it easy to keep all communication in one thread. You can ask them any follow-up questions you may have or add overlay text with a Calendly link to your reply so they can schedule a meeting to chat.
